Darren Barley – Mr. Electric Wolverhampton
Mr. Electric Wolverhampton Franchisee
Darren Barley joined a large electrical company around 2008 as an electrician’s mate, he went to night school 3 nights a week to gain the correct qualifications. Once qualified, the Mr. Electric Wolverhampton owner, was taken on by the same company as an electrician and worked for them for 7 years. “I got fed up of mangers who had no experience in the trade and were trying to tell me how to do things when I knew it wasn’t possible. I’d always wanted to work for myself, but I was too scared to commit…”
He continued “I decided I wanted more, more of a challenge… to be my own boss. So, in 2017 I gave it all up and joined Mr Electric.”
Since starting in 2017 Darren has built his business to employ 3 members of staff working within his area “I thought joining a franchise would give me more help and support in securing work. Being my own boss, work comes to me. I still have to work for it, but if I want a week off for instance I know the phone will still ring. It’s hard work to start, but if you want rewards nothing is going to be easy. The franchise consultants are great and always there to help whenever needed.” Darren hailed the “on-going support and help from fellow franchises.”
“I spend a lot of my time working, doing office paperwork so I do struggle with spare time. I try my hardest to spend it with my wife and son, they’re my rock and so supportive, one day this will all pay off!”
Darren now plans to grow his business firstly through acquiring a full-time premise and then by putting two more vans out on the road. He only started the business in February 2017 and is on track to reach record figures in 2019.
